Venue updates: the Thursday Meet & Greet is now at the Goldfields Function Centre and the Celebration Dinner is at The Hannans Club. Saturday's Scenario Day is confirmed at the Paddington Gold Mine Training Ground. The revised group rotations are now live below, along with full details and directions.

Sign your waiver

If you haven't already, every participant needs to complete the Volunteer Release and Indemnity before the weekend. It takes about two minutes.

Step 2

Get set up on Acenda

All comms for the weekend will be pushed through the Acenda app, including schedule changes, venue updates and safety notices. Get it installed now so you don't miss anything on the day.

  1. Download the Acenda app from the App Store or Google Play (links below).
  2. Open the app and create your profile.
  3. Go to the Events tab and join "GEM Mutual Aid Weekend."
  4. That's it. You'll get push notifications through the app for anything you need to know across the weekend.

Thursday 30 July · From 5:00 pm

Meet & Greet

Goldfields Function Centre2 Lane Street, Kalgoorlie

All participants, suppliers and sponsors are invited to an informal meet and greet before the weekend kicks off. Meet the other teams, sponsors and workshop facilitators, and settle in.

A short brief of the weekend and inductions will be completed here, so it's well worth being in the room.

Catering by Cafe 312, with drinks available for purchase at the bar.

Skills & Supplier Workshops

Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racecourse17 Meldrum Avenue, Kalgoorlie

Teams rotate through practical workshops delivered by our industry partners:

Sessions run for 60 minutes each, from 7:15 am to 3:15 pm, with 15 minute changeovers and an hour lunch break from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. Lunch is not provided on Friday, and the break gives you time to grab something in town.

What to bring
  • Basic emergency response PPE suitable for workshops and training, including but not limited to work pants and cotton shirt, safety boots, rope harness, gloves for ropes and vehicle extrication, and rescue helmets (with visors if possible)
  • No need to bring BA sets or masks - these will be supplied on the day
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Any personal medications you need throughout the day

Scenario Day

Paddington Gold Mine, Training GroundOff the Goldfields Highway, 26 km north of Kalgoorlie

Teams rotate through realistic emergency response scenarios, applying the skills built during Friday's workshops:

Scenarios run for 90 minutes each, from 7:15 am to 4:30 pm, with 15 minute changeovers and lunch from 12:15 pm to 1:15 pm, provided on site courtesy of Mac's Deli. The longer sessions give teams more time for coaching and debriefs.

Getting there. Allow up to 25 minutes travel. Head 26 km north of Kalgoorlie on the Goldfields Highway, turn left onto Black Flag-Ora Banda Road, then after 4 km turn right towards Paddington and follow the marked route to the Fire Ground.

Alternatively, park at the Paddington car park and personnel can be escorted or transported to the training ground from there.

There are no toilets at the training ground, however transport into the processing plant to use the facilities will run throughout the day.

What to bring
  • Full emergency response PPE suitable for all rescue disciplines, including but not limited to Level 1 coveralls, fire boots, rope harness, gloves for ropes and vehicle extrication, and rescue helmets (with visors if possible)
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Weather appropriate clothing, with around 19°C expected. The event runs outdoors
  • Any personal medications you need throughout the day

Celebration Dinner

The Hannans Club44 Brookman Street, Kalgoorlie

Once the scenarios wrap up, all participants, sponsors, volunteers and supporters are invited to the GEM Celebration Dinner. Unwind, catch up with the other crews, and celebrate the inaugural weekend.

  • A recap of the weekend's activities
  • Recognition of our sponsors, volunteers and facilitators
  • The charity draw, with proceeds raised across the weekend donated to the selected organisation
  • Networking with teams and industry partners

A standing cocktail style menu will be served throughout the evening, catered by Boulder Bites. Stay and enjoy the night with us.

Catering is arranged for Thursday evening, Saturday lunch and the Saturday Celebration Dinner. Friday lunch is your own, in town.
